Il Moretto Veneziano è il gioiello che più rappresenta la tradizione degli artigiani orafi della Repubblica Serenissima.
I primi moretti arrivarono a Venezia dalle coste delle Dalmazia dove gli abitanti usavano dei piccoli orecchini in oro con particolari in smalto come portafortuna contro i pirati Saraceni, detti appunto i "mori", che infestavano il Mediterraneo e compivano razzie nei domini della Serenissima.
Nel tempo, gli orafi veneziani si sono sbizzarriti con la fantasia per creare questi busti con turbante in fogge sempre diverse aggiungendo pietre preziose come brillanti, rubini e smeraldi o semi-preziose come corallo e turchese; dando origine a piccoli "pezzi d'arte" diversi e unici nel loro genere.
A Venezia il Moretto assunse anche il simbolo di benessere e ricchezza e per le famiglie aristocratiche e alto borghesi era un regalo ambito e graditissimo che veniva passato di madre in figlia.
Tutta la società internazionale subisce il fascino di questi piccoli capolavori e non sono pochi i personaggi di spicco che ne possiedono almeno uno.
Short History of the Venetian Moretto
The Venetian Moretto is the jewel that best represent the tradition of the goldsmiths of the Serenissima Republic.
The first Moretti arrived in Venice from the Dalmatian coasts where the inhabitant used small gold earring with enamel details as a lucky charm against the Saracen pirates, called precisely the "Moors, who infested the Meditteranean and carried out raids in the domains of the Serenissima.
Over time, Venetian goldsmiths have indulged themselves with immagination to create these busts with turban in always different shapesby adding preciousstones as brilliants, rubies and emeralds or semi-precious such as coral and turquoise; giving rise to small "pieces of art" different and unique in their kind.
In Venice, Moretto also assumed the symbol of well-being and wealth and for aristocratic and upper families it was a coveted anf very welcome gift that was passed from mother to daughter.
The whole of international society is fascinated by these small masterpieces and there are not a few prominent characters who own at least one.
